In some species, it can be even longer. Bats are blind and have very special hearing capability, which helps them to travel with the help of sound waves. Along with the specie, some other factors also effect on the life span like the living conditions of a bat. Other factor that determines the age of a bat is the mortality rate. The mortality rate is high among young bats as they are unable to fly and protect themselves. But, it is also a fact that growth rate of bats is high and within few months they become able to fly and protect themselves.

According to the records, the longest living bat specie is known as Myotis Lucifigus. The bats of this species are of brown color and researchers have observed a maximum of 33 years of their lifespan. This specie is the widely studied specie in the world. Their size is small; 1/3 size of a mouse (7 gm).
