Many parents and teachers search bats fact for kids to tell their young ones about this creature of God. The average lifespan of a bat is usually up to 20 years. In some species, it can be even longer. Bats are blind and have very special hearing capability, which helps them to travel with the help of sound waves. They produce sounds from their mouth while flying and listen to those sounds. This helps them analyze their distance from any obstruction that might block their flight. Bat is a member of mammalian family and according to some studies, bats can live for more than 30 years, which is three times greater than average life of a mammal.
Life span of a bat differs from specie to specie. There are two major bat species; Megachiroptera and Microchirptera. The first species is of large size bats and second one is the specie of small bats also known as Echolocation bats. Along with the specie, some other factors also effect on the life span like the living conditions of a bat. Other factor that determines the age of a bat is the mortality rate. The mortality rate is high among young bats as they are unable to fly and protect themselves. But, it is also a fact that growth rate of bats is high and within few months they become able to fly and protect themselves.
According to the records, the longest living bat specie is known as Myotis Lucifigus. The bats of this species are of brown color and researchers have observed a maximum of 33 years of their lifespan. This specie is the widely studied specie in the world. Their size is small; 1/3 size of a mouse (7 gm).
